Precision Ag

Collecting Better Data, Making Better Decisions.

When farmers and agronomists talked about precision ag five to ten years ago it was often about purchasing new equipment and technologies: GPS guidance systems, automatic row shut-offs, yield mapping, and so on. Many growers have adopted these technologies and are now looking for innovative ways to utilize the collected data.

Precision ag technologies have opened the door for growers to take advantage of the data they collect on every pass. They use this data to increase production and profit potential by better managing their inputs. The Superior Ag team is here to help our growers turn their data into insights and these insights into more revenue.

Innovator Club

In 2014, Superior Ag began partnering with local growers to test new concepts and technologies in localized trials. It was an opportunity for everyone to learn together about what worked and what didn’t.

For the first two years, the Innovator Club conducted variable rate seeding trials. From there, we have tested soybean seed treatments, fungicides, micro-nutrients, variable rate nitrogen, and row starter packages. The innovator Club has compiled five years of results with hundreds of data points. Our club has grown to more than 50 operations who meet annually to review results from our trials and plan new trials for the upcoming season.

In 2019, the Innovator Club started a high-yield challenge. Not only is this a high-yield contest, it is also an opportunity to showcase insights to help our growers produce higher yields. All of our trial results are available to all of our member-customers.

To learn more about our innovator trials, speak with your local Superior Ag agronomist. To download the 2023 Innovators Trial Results, click here. If you would like to view the protocols for the 2024 Innovators Trials, click here.

Soil Sampling

Soil sampling is one of the simplest land management tools available.
We Provide:

  • WinTex Automatic soil probe used to ensure consistency and improve accuracy
  • Samples taken on a 2.5 acre grid and GPS recorded
  • GPS boundary of the field
  • 10-12 samples taken at 6” depth represent each grid
  • Soil Analysis includes P, K, Mg, Ca, pH, S, Zn, OM, CEC and % Base Saturations

Customized fertility recommendations include:

  • P30, 40, 50, 60 & 70 build levels
  • K200, 220, 250, 270 & 300 build levels
  • Lime and Mg Dolomitic Lime

Tissue Sampling

Obtaining a tissue sample from your crop can help you take control of your field and protect its yield potential. The analysis from the sample will give you insights to help you make the best decision for your acres. Identify hidden hunger in your fields before it’s too late. Whether getting crops off to a fast start, to correcting deficiencies in-season, a healthy harvest starts with healthy fields.

R7® Tool

The R7 tool provides unbiased product performance, information and critical field data to help you optimize ROI. The tool uses satellite imagery and soil maps to reveal variability across a given field. Then, it uses both local and national Answer Plot data to show how varieties respond to cropping systems and management factors in similar regions. This information gathered will provide accurate data driven recommendations for your fields to help you optimize yield potential and defend that yield throughout the season.
Bringing the capability of:

  • Variable Rate Prescriptions
  • In-season Imagery
  • CHT Tool
  • Field Forecasting Tool
  • Field Monitoring Tool
  • Data Silo
  • Weather Forecasting Tool

VR Seeding and VR Nitrogen

Variable-rate seeding is a practice to help tailor seeding rates to address field variability, which increases utilization efficiency. Variable Rate Seeding utilizes multiple layers of data, including: multiple year normalized difference vegetation index imagery, historical yield data, soil type, field variability, hybrid characteristics, and field management practices.

Nitrogen is one of the most expensive inputs and one of the biggest impacts on yield. Variables change all across your fields and it is proven that VR seeding historically increases ROI. Variable Rate Nitrogen, like other variable rate processes, utilizes technology to put accurate Nitrogen placement in the field by using insights provided from historical data. Ultimately, the data builds your prescriptions from previous soil history and hybrid performance.

In-Season Imagery

In-season imagery provides images of their fields throughout the growing season. These images are able to provide insights to aid in management decisions. Images allow growers to utilize side-by-side comparisons, determine the health of the crop, and predicts yield potential. In-season imagery helps agronomists identify problematic areas in fields as the season progresses, so corrective measures can be implemented before yield potential is jeopardized.

Data Management

Our team summarizes data on a field by field and trial by trial basis in a form that allows each customer to see how different products or varieties can impact their overall yield.

AquaSpy® Soil Moisture Monitoring

AquaSpy® is a soil moisture monitoring system. This tool is an irrigation management service that helps manage water stress issues that may arise throughout the growing season. AquaSpy® is a water management tool that makes recommendations by capturing the most accurate soil moisture conditions by utilizing multiple points in every field.

Climate FieldView™

Climate FieldView™ is a tool that collects field data and puts it all in one place. The tool uncovers valuable field insights and optimizes your inputs. This technology analyzes planting data, soil type, seed type, and yield data by field all at your fingertips, so you can make the best agronomic decisions. It allows you to find out what’s happening beyond the end rows with consistent, high-quality imagery that can help you identify issues early, prioritize scouting and allow you to take action to protect yield potential.

FieldAlytics

FieldAlytics is a field data management system Superior Ag provides to aid in agronomical and farm management decisions. This system helps improve efficiency through profile management, asset management, work order management, and management zone creation.

Precision ag utilizes multiple forms of technology to provide powerful insight that allow our growers to study the past, see the present and plan for the future.

Soil sampling is a fundamental management practice. After soil fertility is determined, customized fertility recommendations are provided to our growers – keeping economics and land stewardship in mind.

Variable rate fertility recommendations can also be provided from yield data to replace nutrients removed by the crop in specific areas of the field. During the growing season, tissue sampling and in season imagery can help ensure that adequate nutrients are in place when plants need them the most. Managing the data necessary to make these important decisions is easier and more intuitive than ever. When you deploy the latest data gathering and management platforms, such as Climate FieldView and FieldAlytics, your entire operation is at your fingertips.
